An 18-year-old driver was allegedly seriously assaulted after he did a burnout and his car skidded out of control, injuring six people, including two children, in NSW’s Hunter Valley region.
Police were called to Bromage Road in Abermain, around 8km from Cessnock, around 12.05am following reports a car doing a burnout had crashed into a parked car, which then hit several pedestrians during an illegal street meet.
A blue Subaru Liberty AWD sedan had been driving east when it hit two parked vehicles, a white LDV and a champagne-coloured Mazda 6, police say.
The AWD then struck a group of people.
An eight-year-old girl was left with internal injuries and a woman, 31, was seriously injured after the car hit six onlookers during the street racing event.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Dave Wardell said the driver was allegedly attacked by members of the crowd after the crash.
“It is very, very concerning that we have got eight and 10-year-olds out at a street racing event at that time of night,” Wardell said.
“Certainly that will be part of our investigation.”
