Thieves have escaped with an expensive stash of 40 Persian rugs during a bizarre smash and grab at Carrara.
The offenders broke in just after three this morning, snapped a wire fence, and dismantled an alarm, before using a rock to smash their way inside.
It’s believed the total value of the stolen collection is around $120-thousand.
“They are high quality rugs and we can’t discount the possibility that these rugs have been moved on interstate or even internationally.”
Police believe the thieves may have escaped in a van or truck.
