Man aged in his 30s shot dead by police in hospital car park near Taree
A man has been shot dead by police in a hospital car park on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Police were called to Rouse Street in Wingham, around 10km from Taree, following reports a man was firing shots in the air.
While hunting the alleged gunman in the area, police found the man in the car park of Manning Base Hospital at about 12.55pm today.
He allegedly pointed a gun at the officers, police said in a statement.
The man was then shot by police at the scene.
He was immediately treated by officers and paramedics, however died in hospital a short time later.
The man, who is yet to be identified, is believed to be aged in his 30s.
Nobody else was injured in the incident.
A critical incident investigation team is now looking into the matter and an independent review will take place.
