Boy charged after trio allegedly carried out string of armed robberies at NSW hotels

A 14-year-old boy will face court after several people were allegedly held at knifepoint during a string of armed robberies at hotels in northern NSW.

Three males, one as young as 14, first allegedly broke into a hotel room on Amaroo Drive in Moree at 3.15am last Thursday while armed with knives.

A 63-year-old woman inside the hotel room was allegedly assaulted before the men left in a car belonging to the woman and an 83-year-old man, who was also in the room at the time.

The 83-year-old man was uninjured.

Paramedics treated the woman and she was taken to Moree District Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

An hour later, police allege the same trio drove to a hotel on Mungindi Road in the allegedly stolen car and broke into another hotel room.

It is alleged the group got into another altercation with a 51-year-old man in the room before fleeing. He was not injured.

The group then allegedly broke into another room at the same hotel and threatened a 78-year-old man and 65-year-old woman at knifepoint, before taking the keys to their car.

The trio drove both allegedly stolen cars from the second hotel to a third hotel on Warialda Street, where they again forced entry into a room with a 44-year-old man and 11-year-old boy inside.

They allegedly took the keys to their car.

Another hotel guest, a 46-year-old man then challenged the trio and was threatened with a knife by the group.

Police allege one of the men got into one of the allegedly stolen cars and drove it towards the 46-year-old before he crashed it into a parked car.

The other two men allegedly fled the scene in the remaining cars.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested over the incidents at a home in Moree at 4.25pm yesterday.

Police allegedly found a small amount of marijuana on the boy during the arrest.

He was taken to Moore Police Station where he was charged with seven offences including aggravated break and enter, participating in a criminal group, and armed break and enter.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Children’s Court.

The police investigation is continuing.
