With girls league tag to be introduced to two-grades in the Group Three junior competition next year, a gala day was held in Taree today to help would-be players learn the rules.
Seven schools registered 10-teams in the event, with around 50 kids taking part.
NRL development officer and Australian touch player, Kylie Hilder, is leading the push for more girls to get into the sport.
As of 2015 girls will be able to play in the under 12’s and under 14’s divisions in the Group Three competition.
