Body found in search for missing 11-year-old
A body found on the central cost of NSW is believed to be that of an 11-year-old boy who was swept out to sea on Sunday.
Laith Alaid, 11, was swept out to sea on Sunday while trying to cross The Entrance Channel.
NSW Police said while the person hasn’t been formally identified, they believe it is 11-year-old Alaid.
The search lasted three days and included dozens of agencies.
The Alaid family released a statement yesterday afternoon saying they were “deeply moved” by the community’s support, and said they “remained hopeful.”
Laith had been fishing with his father and siblings when they ran into trouble while trying to cross through the channel.
Bystanders rushed to help the family, looking after the other siblings while the boy’s father tried to reach him.
However he was unable to, and the 11-year-old was taken out to sea by the current and disappeared in the water.
