Man charged after Newcastle crime spree
A man will face court after being charged with 9 offences including an alleged string of robberies and home invasion in Newcastle over the weekend.
Three separate incidents took place in Wallsend and Cooks Hill including a break and enter at a home on Bull Street, Cooks Hill where several personal items were stolen.
In the first reported incident, a 30-year-old man entered his parked car on Wentworth Street, Wallsend, when he approached by a man allegedly armed with a small axe. The man demanded money from the car owner. The car owner was forced to drive the car around the block before the armed man ran off.
In a third incident, a 66-year-old man entered his parked car in Parry Street, Cooks Hill, when a man allegedly armed with a sharp instrument entered the car via the passenger side door and demanded property. Two other men also assaulted the car owner as he fought off the armed man.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District were contacted and commenced an investigation into the incident.
Police located the 21-year-old man walking along Darby Street, Cooks Hill where he allegedly used a steel bar towards police to prevent his arrest.
