NORTH WEST FIRE HOT SPOTS

Weakening winds have helped firefighters battling a bushfire, that’s now burnt out 2,600 hectares of land south of Inverell.

Today five aircraft continued to waterbomb the south eastern flank of the fire, which is raging west of Tingha.

Last night, a number of properties south of Gilgai were hit by an ember attack, forcing fire crews to fight the flames directly.

Two strike teams from the coast have arrived, and are assisting with backburning.

Meanwhile, two fires continue to burn near Narrabri.

A blaze in the Kerringle State Forest has been contained, while crews are working to strengthen containment lines around the Sawn Rocks fire.

And another two fires have broken out at Torrington, north of Glen Innes.
