Heartbreak for Jemma Smith at World Champs

Former Terrigal Lifesaver Karlee Nurthen makes stunning comeback

The Central Coast’s Jemma Smith was also in action at the World Championships in the Women’s Single Ski.

Smith was behind early, but powered her way to the front at the final turning buoy.

In the closing stages, she looked to have one hand on the gold, but six of her rivals caught a wave from behind and she missed out on the medals.

While it was heartbreak for Smith, former Terrigal Lifesaver Karlee Nurthen was ecstatic to pick up silver.

Nurthen made a comeback especially for the event, and will now retire to coach the nippers at Tallebudgera Surf Club.
