Avoca’s Riley Fitzsimmons leads men’s K-4 team to 500 metre semi finals
After placing third in the opening heat, the men’s K-4 canoe sprint team fired back in the 500 metre quarter final to blitz the field and set a new Olympic best for the Australian’s. Securing themselves a coveted spot in the semi finals on Thursday night.
Jess Hull breezes through to 1500 metre semi final
Newcastle’s newest resident Jess Hull has started her Olympic campaign with a bang, running second in the opening heat of the women’s 1500 metre – Just 0.03 off heat winner Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir. Hull is peaking at the right time, setting a new world record in the 2000 metre a month before the Games. She now progresses to the semi-final on Friday morning.
Boomers crash out of the Olympics against Serbia
The Boomers have crashed out of the Olympics after blowing a huge 24 point lead against Serbia last night. Despite Patty Mills sinking an unbelievable shot in the final seconds, to send the game into overtime. The Boomers faltered, Serbia claiming a thrilling 95-90 overtime win. Tamworth’s Nick Kay played just 8 minutes in the final outing for the Aussie men in Paris.

Lake Macquarie Sailors bow out of medal race contention
Brin Lidell and Rhiannan Brown took to the water in Marseille for their final mixed multihull races. Despite one of their best finishes to date to start the day, the sixth place wasn’t enough to see them through to the medal race top 10 – finishing 13th overall.
