NNSW Olympic Wrap: Day 5

Willow Tree’s Alice Arnott has fired the Hockeyroos to the top of Pool B. After missing the opening game due to injury, the former Tamworth Frog starred again for Australia, scoring her second goal of the tournament. Set up by Newcastle’s Mariah Williams, Arnott hit home the Hockeyroos’ second against the USA. The young gun then provided the assist to Maddison Brooks who made it 3-0. The team which includes Grafton’s Grace Young has booked its place in the quarter-finals.

Heartbreak for Newcastle’s Emily Van Egmond and Clare Wheeler. The pair were subbed on in the second half of the Matilda’s clash with the USA but couldn’t help Australia overcome the halftime deficit. The 2-1 loss ends the Aussie’s chances of progressing to the next round.

The Central Coast’s Brad Woodward wrapped up his maiden Olympics campaign in the pool. The Shelly Beach local unable to progress through to the semi-finals in the Men’s 200M backstroke.

Narrabri boxer Shannon Davey made his Olympic debut in the ring. Fighting in the Men’s 71kg division, Davey was outclassed by Rami Mofid Kiwan from Bulgaria who won the bout by unanimous decision.
