Teenager killed and driver under police guard after crash on NSW motorway

A teenager has died and his older sister has been charged after a horror crash on the Pacific Highway in New South Wales overnight.

The 17-year-old boy was a passenger in a station wagon that crashed into a tree at Charmhaven on the state’s Central Coast about 1.30am.

He was killed on impact.

Police said the 19-year-old woman, believed to be his sister, was allegedly driving the car.

“I came outside [and] there was a young lady standing outside quite hysterical,” a witness who was first on the scene told 9News.

Police found her nearby a short time later.

She was taken to Gosford Hospital with minor injurieswhere she was charged at a bedside hearing this afternoon.

The charges include dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving (occasioning death), failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, and driving while suspended.

She was granted strict conditional bail and will appear before Wyong Local Court on August 26 and was issued with a subsequent suspension notice.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
