Constipation, toothaches and hiccups were some of the emergency calls phoned in to Triple Zero last year, according to NSW Ambulance.
The latest data from NSW Ambulance revealed in 2023 thousands of calls were made to Triple Zero that were either hoaxes or for trivial matters.
Constipation was the top non-emergency call-out with 515 calls made to Triple Zero followed by 186 for toothaches and 78 for earaches.
About 56 Triple Zero calls were made about boils, 51 were from people who couldn’t sleep and at least three were related to hiccups.
The statistics have prompted NSW Ambulance to issue a reminder about what constitutes as an emergency.
It said triple zero calls should be made in a situation that would require a call out from paramedics or transportation to hospital.
Examples that aren’t considered an emergency include, experiencing hot flushes or being unable to remove an ear plug, said NSW Ambulance.
Other trivial callouts include requests for removal of a splinter or a person suffering an ingrown toenail or pimple.
