Man charged after alleged government relief grant fraud

A man has been charged after allegedly applying for fraudulent government relief claims worth nearly $400,000.

Police will allege the 34-year-old man from South West Rocks on the state’s Mid North Coast made multiple applications for government relief grants between February and May 2020 for a total of $390,000, of which $40,000 was paid.

NSW Police attended a business on Government Road in South West Rocks at 3pm on June 6 and issued the man with a future court attendance notice.

The charges include four counts of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception and publishing false/misleading material to obtain an advantage.

Investigators from the Rural Crime Prevention Team started investigating the claims of fraud in January 2024.

The man will appear at Kempsey Local Court on August 1.

Inquiries are continuing.
