Newcastle surfer Ryan Callinan has breezed through the elimination round in Tahiti, the latest stop on surfing’s world tour.
Up against Brazil’s Caio Ibelli and Hawaii’s Tyler Newton, the Novocastrian only needed three rides to win the heat by almost four points, at the famous Teahupo’o left hander.
Callinan will face American Griffin Colapinto in the round of 32, where he’ll be joined by six fellow Aussies.
