The Broadbeach Surf Club has lost about a $100,000 worth of skis, boards and other equipment after a fire ripped through a shed this morning.
Local clubbies were out training when they noticed smoke billowing from the club and called the fire brigade.
“We didn’t open the doors because we knew then we would have oxygen or air going in which would create an inferno potentially dangerous to everyone around us.”
“Preliminary investigation suggests it could have been an electrical short. We will do a full investigation and see what we can find.”
The surf club was evacuated as a precaution.
