COMMUNITY CALLS FOR REJECTED QUARANTINE HUB TO BE USED AS A SHELTER

Tamworth residents say they’d like to see the city’s vacant flight training school used as a homeless shelter.
The suggestion comes after the State Government confirmed the facility will NOT be used as a quarantine centre for seasonal workers.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro rejected Tamworth Regional Council’s plans to bring workers from the Pacific into the city – fearing it posed too high a risk to the community.
Residents were quick to show their support on social media – suggesting the building is instead offered to local support services to get homeless people off the streets.
