NEW TESTS ON LAMAN STREET’S GREEN CATHEDRAL

Yet more tests will be carried out on Newcastle’s Laman Street figs, after a working committee today discussed using a new device that would sit at the base of the trees.

Cr Nuatlai nelmes today told NBN News, “The recommendation from this morning’s meeting was to investigate technology that can monitor the trees for movement in wind events.”

Cr Nelmes, who’s on the committee, is confident the majority of the figs will pass the tests.

She says that outcome would support the councillors’ decision, made last December, to retain the 14 figs.

Cr Nelmes also hopes it’ll prompt council to finally take down the street’s great wall of wire.
