Ballina Byron Gateway Airport evacuated

There were dramatic scenes at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport last night, after the airport was evacuated.

At around 6pm last night, a bag was left unattended – triggering immediate security alerts.

Emergency services blocked off surrounding streets, before the bag’s owner was identified, and thankfully there was no risk to the community.

The airport has emphasised its strict policy – with all unattended baggage treated as suspicious.
