A tsunami alert has been lifted for Lord Howe Island, though unusually large waves could lash at its coast for the next few days.
The marine warning was issued after an earthquake near New Caledonia early this morning, prompting fears of dangerous rips, waves and strong ocean currents.
There’s no threat to the Australian mainland.
