THE GUPPIES GEAR UP FOR GROOVIN THE MOO

Fresh faced and ready to take on the Australian music scene.

The Guppies have only been together for a year, but already they’re gaining national radio exposure, playing sold out shows and sharing the stage with some of the country’s best acts.

The Guppies’ first track, Never Liked Mondays, peaked at number two on the Triple J Unearthed charts, and since then they have been appearing in festival line-ups and gracing Newcastle stages.

Tomorrow, the Newcastle band will play alongside Kaiser Chiefs, Hermitude and 360 at the sold out Groovin the Moo at Maitland.

Teenagers Lachlan Morris, James Hodgett and Angus Geraghty have had their music described as indie, punk and rock and roll, but the boys say they are still exploring their sound, influenced by whatever they are listening to at the time.

And their songs are receiving acclaim from industry heavyweights.

Chris Cheney from The Living End has described their music as having a “great spirit, energy and melodically very catchy. Reminds me of The Saints which can’t be a bad thing!”.

While James and Angus are preparing to sit their HSCs, it’s obvious music is their passion. The Guppies have just hired a manager and are planning to release an album next year.

They’re playing at The Loft youth venue in Newcastle on July 6.
