In the early years of broadcast, our reporters were often amongst the action, during combat exercises.
Singleton Army base was expanding, and new recruits welcomed.
Armoured personnel Carriers, travelled from Muswellbrook, for training activities, NBN Cameras were there to capture the manoeuvres.
Visits by dignitaries included Victoria Cross recipient, NSW Governor Sir Roden Cutler, and Prime Minister Harold Holt,
And in Newcastle, a special guest entertained the troops at Camp Shortland Nobbys Beach, camels played a significant role in desert campaigns, during war time.
This fellow joined the parade along Hunter st, much to the delight of locals in 1963.
