GOLF CLUB CAPTAIN FINED FOR LAYING POISON

The former captain of a Lake Macquarie golf club has been fined after laying poisoned meat on the course which killed a dog, and made another seriously ill.

Michael Hancock took his dogs for a run around the Waratah Golf Course at Argenton on March 26th, however that night they became seriously ill.

The following day he retraced the route and found a bag of chicken mince which had been laced with a potent insecticide.

67-year-old Gregory Walker later told an RSPCA Inspector he’d laid the poisoned meat. And told officers he been “hammered” by members about “very bad crow problem”.

Mr Walker then resigned from the club saying he’d had a “brain snap”.

RSPCA Chief Inspector David O’Shannessy says it was deliberate attempt to cause harm.

“Here we have a man who blames a ‘brain snap’ for using a highly toxic and illegal bait to try and kill
crows,”

“Though he admits the birds were unlikely to go near the smelly mince,”

Mr Walker was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay professional costs.
