Byron Bay blaze downgraded after intense firefighting efforts

Firefighters have spent the day backburning… and even brought in heavy machinery in a bid to contain a blaze at Byron Bay.

It follows a tense evening – police doorknocked residents, and some self-evacuated at Brunswick Heads as it burnt at watch and act level… it’s since been downgraded.
