‘Too late to leave’: Emergency warning upgraded in NSW

Two blazes in NSW have just been upgraded.

– An emergency warning is in place for Coolagolite Rd Fire, Coolagolite. A bushfire is burning in an easterly direction towards Cuttagee, Barragga Bay and Bermagui. If you are in these areas, you are in danger.

– An emergency warning has also been upgraded for a blaze near Allandale Street, Kearsley. If you are in the Abernethy area, you are in danger. It is now too late to leave. Seek shelter in a solid structure such as a house to protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Close all windows and doors and shelter in a room on the other side of the house from the approaching fire.

Lake Road is closed in both directions between Allandale Street and Leggetts Drive at Kearsley due to a bushfire.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Motorists who need to travel can divert via Kurri Kurri, Abermain and Aberdare, using Leggetts Drive, Stanford Street, Railway Street, Victoria Street, Mitchell Avenue, Northcote Street, First Street, Station Street, Cessnock Road, Maitland Road, Duffie Drive, Colliery Street, Greta Street and Caledonia Street.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, take care through the area and follow the directions of emergency services.
