Elderly woman dies in Lake Munmorah house fire

An elderly woman and her two beloved dogs have perished in a house fire at Lake Munmorah on the Central Coast.

Her grandson, who lives at the front of the property, was unable to reach her due to the intensity of the blaze and called triple 0 for help.

About 10.25am today, emergency services were called to Clarence Street, following reports of a house fire.

Officers arrived to find a house well alight, with the fire soon extinguished by firefighters.

Following a search of the home, the body of a woman was located.

A crime scene has been established, and investigations are underway into the case of the fire.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
