A 59-year-old man has been winched from a swamp, 24 hours after going missing from his Tweed Heads retirement home.
Gerald Carroll was last seen at around 1pm on Saturday, and wasn’t found until an air search was carried out in nearby swamp land.
“When we first came accross him he was probably up to his chest, you could only just see his head out of the water, he was basically submerged in the water. When I was winched down I wasn’t sure if it was that depth, but it was and it was pretty difficult to get him out of where he was”
He was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital in a stable condition.
