About 12.35pm today, emergency services were called to Soldiers Point Road, Salamander Bay, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Officers arrived to find a van and truck had collided, with both drivers trapped.
The driver of the van, a 35-year-old man, and the driver of the truck, a 50-year-old man, were extricated and treated at the scene before being airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police established a crime scene which will be examined by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
