A man aged in his 60’s has died after a train struck a ute at a level crossing in the state’s north-west today.
Emergency services were called to the level crossing at Callaghans Lane, 5km south of Quirindi, about 2.45pm, responding to reports the northbound train had struck a ute.
Paramedics attended to the driver but he died at the scene.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances has begun.
No passengers on the train were injured and other transport was arranged for them.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
