A young woman has died after she was struck by a car, west of Newcastle.
Just after 11 last night, the 21-year-old was walking with two friends along Minmi Road at Wallsend when she was hit.
She suffered serious head injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics, but later died at John Hunter Hospital.
The 18-year-old male driver is assisting police with their inquiries.
