A house near Newcastle has been completely destroyed by fire this morning.
Neighbouring residents were forced to defend their own homes around 12.30am, while more than 20 firefighters worked to control the blaze at the single level Edgeworth home.
No one was inside the house but a search located a deceased dog – a police investigation is now underway.
