Urgent calls for Medowie Overpass
Local MP calls on State Government to improve safety for highway road-users
There are urgent calls for an interchange to be built on the Pacific Highway, just north of Raymond Terrace.
It comes as a nearby quarry looks to expand; which local residents fear could result in more trucks using an already notorious intersection.
Full statement from NSW Transport:
Transport for NSW is developing options to address at-grade access points on the Pacific Motorway between Raymond Terrace and Karuah.
This includes investigating upgrades for Italia Road, Medowie Road and Bucketts Way.
Options being explored include grade separations and service road improvements to safely connect the strategic east-west corridors intersecting the Pacific Motorway corridor.
The Australian and NSW governments have committed $9 million to developing options for the at-grade intersections, allowing the project to progress to “shovel ready” should funding be made available for implementation.
Transport for NSW is aware of the growth on Italia Road with the proposed increase in quarry operations and has been working with the proponents around safe and efficient access. The Italia Road operations are being taken into consideration in the investigations.
