FUNDING FOR NEWCASTLE VENOM RESEARCHERS

Researchers from the University of Newcastle have been awarded $2.5-million to continue vital work in the treatment of snake bites.
The funding will help set up a Centre for Research Excellence.
“One of the main areas is to look at an early diagnostic test to improve the diagnosis of snake and venoming so we can give antivenom within that 2 to 3 hours time period after the bite where we know that antivenom is the most effective”
