Remembering John Olsen

Described today as a “titan of the art world”, Newcastle-born John Olsen has died – with his family by his side.

The 95-year-old had a legendary lust for Australian life that came across on his colourful canvases, which he was still painting just days ago.

Tributes have been flowing in, for the famed Australian landscape artist, who left his mark on Newcastle.

John Olsen’s connection to the region will live on, in the city’s redeveloped art gallery, which is home to more than 40 of his works.
