Police searching for pair behind Shortland pursuit
About 12.30pm yesterday (Monday 20 February 2023), police from Newcastle City Police District were patrolling the Inner City Bypass, Shortland, when they attempted to stop a white MG SUV reported as stolen.
The driver failed to stop the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
The vehicle was seen a short time later and a second pursuit was initiated; however, this was again terminated due to safety concerns after the vehicle allegedly reversed into the pursuing NSW Police vehicle.
A short time later police were advised that the vehicle had crashed on Old Maitland Rd, Sandgate, with the occupants fleeing.
Despite attempts to locate the driver and passenger, they were unable to be located.
Police have now issued descriptions of two people they believe can assist with their inquiries.
The male driver of the vehicle is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 30-40, with short black hair and a tattoo underneath his eye.
The female passenger is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 30-40, with blond hair. She was wearing glasses at the time of the incident.
