CONTAMINATED SOIL TO BE REMOVED FROM ALEXANDER PARK

The environment watchdog has ordered Port Stephens Council to remove 3,000 tonnes of contaminated soil from Alexander Park at Salt Ash.

The council had sought to keep the soil on site, to be used as a BMX track.

But the EPA denied the request, stating it was not fit of reuse because it contains traces of acid sulphate.

The watchdog says the council must now remove the waste and dispose of it responsibility.
