A new $35-million supported living complex for people with intellectual disabilities was officially opened in Hamlyn Terrace today.
Minister for Ageing and Disability Services, Peter Primrose did the honours in front of residents and their carers.
Casuarina Grove replaces the former mental health facility at Peat Island.
“Those facilities have had their day, we are committed to ensuring people with disabilities can live in the community like everyone else.”
The village provides accommodation for 96 people as well as short term respite care.
“It’s wonderfully located, a great great asset for our community and we are very pleased and proud to welcome these residents.”
