Mother of NRL star facing court over heroin supply

The mother of Cronulla Sharks star Nicho Hynes has faced court today after playing an alleged role in a heroin supply chain.

Today she pleaded not guilty in Gosford District Court, after being charged with knowingly taking part in the supply of a prohibited drug.

In May 2021, Luke Murphy suffered a fatal overdose at Julie Hynes’ home in Blackwall.

His death led to police searching the house, but neither Ms Hynes nor her co-accused Michael Selvich is accused of any offence in relation to the death of Murphy.

Photos taken at the time show a hydraulic press and a dustpan, which police allege was filled with heroin.

Kurt Wheeler, the paramedic who attended Ms Hynes’ home when Murphy died, told the court Ms Hynes appeared dishevelled, very pale, and denied using drugs.

Ms Hynes was arrested at Ettalong Beach a day after the incident.

The arresting officer told the court Ms Hynes refused to hand over her mobile phone.

Selvich has also pleaded not guilty to one count of taking part in a supply of a prohibited drug.
