Severe weather warnings in place for Northern Rivers

Lismore has seen the heaviest September rainfall in 16 years, with 45 millimetres recorded in 48 hours.

A severe weather warning is tonight in place for the Northern Rivers, with the bureau predicting damaging surf and winds over the weekend.

Gusts of up to 100 kilometres are possible along the coast up to Cape Byron, including Ballina, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.
