LOCAL ACTIVIST’S MEMORY HONOURED WITH ANNUAL LECTURE

Renowned local writer and human rights activist, the late Dr Tania Lienart has had her life honoured through education.

The academic, who was killed last December in a car accident, will be remembered through an annual lecture held at Southern Cross University.

Dr Lienart established the Northern Rivers Safe Place network, a refuge from homophobic violence and her friends believe the lectures are a fitting way to remember her.

“At one level she’d think it was a lot of fuss but on another level she’d be really touched and really proud of the fact that we are acknowledging not just her work but the voices of community and bringing that into a forum where people can share ideas and grow.”

The inaugural lecture will be held on June 30.
