November 12 1963, RAAF tactical manoeuvres were underway, when a Sabre Jet plummeted from the sky, smashing into a house in Mayfield.
Crowds gathered as firemen extinguished the flames.
Frightened neighbours described the crash – the house was in ruins, the jet a wreck… but incredibly Mrs Tillitzki survived.
After Parachuting to safety, pilot Ron Slater was interviewed by NBN from his hospital Bed.
