IGA BASH VICTIM TALKS

A young cleaner, brutally bashed during a robbery at Ormeau’s I-G-A, has spoken about his terrifying ordeal.

25-year-old Jacob Kelly was left with devastating injuries, and says he won’t be working at night again, after Sunday’s attack.

CCTV captures the seconds before a heartless thug pounces on the cleaner.

“He put me in a choker, threw me on the floor, tied my hands behind my back, dragged me around the back, put duct tape over my eyes and started kicking and punching.” (..secs, “kicking and punching”)

Jacob suffered a fractured jaw, cheekbone and two eye sockets.

The crime spree in the area continued overnight, with a ram raid at a tyre business in Ormeau (OR MOE) and another at the Windaroo IGA.

  1. I would be interesting to find out if the cleaner is covered by workers compensation. I know that a few years ago the same thing happened to the cleaner at the same store. I was the relief cleaner called in by the then Ellsco Cleaning (now Energetic Cleaning Services). I know that Ellsco didn’t have any compensation provisions for its cleaners then.
