23 YEARS JAIL FOR BALLINA PUB MURDERER

A 25-year-old man will spend at least 17 years behind bars for the murder of Ballina Tatooist, David Newport.

Douglas Elwin Barlow was handed a maximum sentence of 23-years behind bars at the Lismore Supreme Court yesterday.

On Monday, Barlow pleaded guilty to stabbing the 40-year-old in the chest during an altercation outside Ballina’s Henry Rous Hotel in July, 2011.

Barlow will be eligible for parole in July 20-28.
