PORT STEPHENS INNER LIGHT TURNS 150

A historical maritime moment has been recreated today at Nelson Headland in Port Stephens with the lighting of a guiding lamp, 150 years after it was first illuminated.
The re-enactment of the milestone at Marine Rescue Port Stephens Headquarters was to commemorate the duties of William Glove, the first light keeper.
William’s great, great grandson Geoff Glover lit the replica lamp to mark the special celebration.
The hexagonal light room was built on the home of William Glover, replacing the original small timber structure made a decade before after lobbying from mariners and local business leaders due to the treacherous headlands.
