Merriwa’s annual Festival of the Fleeces will not go ahead this June long-weekend.
This year’s festival was due to celebrate it’s 30th anniversary.
The cancellation is due to state and federal government restrictions in relation to mass public gatherings of more than 500 people.
Festival of the Fleeces attracts 5000 people to the Upper Hunter town every year.
Upper Hunter Shire Council general manager Steve McDonald said “this type of event can’t be postponed to a later date.”
“The red socks will stay in the cupboard and the sheep will stay off the street this year.”
