NEWCASTLE’S COVID OUTBREAK WORSENS AS HEALTH DISTRICT RECORDS 424 NEW CASES

There’s grave concerns for Newcastle after the Hunter New England Health District recorded 424 new cases overnight – 243 of them from the city alone.

It’s understood a number of cases are of the Omicron variant and that a number of nightclubs, including the Argyle House and Finnegans Hotel, are at the epicentre of the outbreak.

Meanwhile, 76 cases were recorded in Lake Macquarie, 69 in Maitland and 18 in Port Stephens. Elsewhere, Cessnock recorded seven cases and Singleton, two. Further north, Tamworth has two new cases, Armidale, one, Moree, two and the Mid Coast, four.

Seven people are in hospital, three of them in Intensive Care.
Anyone with even the mildest of symptoms is urged to get tested.
