INCREASE IN STEALING OFFENCES ACROSS NEWCASTLE
Police are warning the community to be on alert, after an increase in stealing offences across Newcastle.
Officers say they’re currently receiving more reports of people stealing from cars – particularly in Cooks Hill, Merewether and The Junction.
In a large number of offences, the vehicles were left unlocked with wallets or other valuables visible, including identification and debit cards – some used in fraud offences.
Break and enter offences are increasingly being linked to stolen motor vehicles.
Houses are also being left unlocked with car keys left clearly visible in many instances.
Police are urging people to lock up their car and house, don’t leave car keys in the open inside your house and consider investing in security lights and cameras.
