A Canberra-based consultancy firm has been appointed to resolve in-fighting among Gwydir Shire councillors.
Gwydir General Manager, Max Eastcott, made the decision on the advice of the Department of Local Government.
It follows a dispute last week where five councillors walked out of a meeting after supporting a no-confidence motion in the mayor, Bob Tremain.
Mr Eastcott said the mediators will speak with councillors and staff early next week, and says he’s confident a resolution can be reached before the next council meeting on the 16th of April.
If not, the Department of Local Government will have to step in.
