WERRIS CREEK TO TRIAL NEW FIRE MITIGATION PROGRAM FEATURING GOATS

Werris Creek will play a part in a new pilot program by the Rural Fire Service, to reduce bushfire risks.

The initiative will see herds of goats chew through fuel loads.

It’s the first trial of its kind to be conducted in New South Wales, with similar programs proving successful in Queensland and the United States.

“We’re looking for locations where we can get the goats in, they’ll obviously eat down the vegetation and provide us with some protection for that community.”

Interested local landholders, with goats, are encouraged to get in touch with their local RFS Control Centre.
