Police have launched a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting in Port Stephens.
A man – who is yet to be formally identified – was found shot in a ute on Hideaway Drive at Salt Ash just before 2pm on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the scene after reports a vehicle had crashed into a tree – but the driver, who was suffering a gun shot wound, couldn’t be revived.
Detectives have established Strike Force Breve to investigate the suspected murder.
Police have established a crime scene at Salt Ash, and at Masonite Road in Heatherbrae, where a vehicle was found burnt out.
